- A Detailed Description of the
- San Luis Obispo Airport
- Aircraft Run-up Shelter

|
|
PURPOSE
|
This Shelter was built for American Eagle
Airlines (subsidiary of American Airlines) to
reduce noise that disturbs near-by residential
areas. The Aircraft tested in this shelter are SAAB
A-340 Turbo-Prop transports.

DESIGN
|
The enclosure is a "U" shaped structure. Its
width is approximately 88 feet and its depth is
approximately 64 feet. The total height of its
walls is 20 feet. The base of each wall has a 4
foot high vertical concrete block section which is
topped by a 16 foot high QUILITE section that
extends the height to 20 feet
|
|
QUILITE
|
The nominal size of QUILITE panels used in the
wall is 4 feet X 8 feet. The total area of QUILITE
used approximately 3100 sq. feet.
|
|
LABOR
|
Installation labor, after post emplacement, used
3 days to install the panels. An individual panel
required approximately 5 minutes to install.
|
|
PERFORMANCE
|
Acoustic measurements indicate that the average
wall sound transmission loss between 63Hz and
8000Hz is approximately 20dBA. Also, at a location
200 feet in front of the open side of the
enclosure, measurements indicate that the reflected
sound pressure level average, between 500Hz and
8000Hz, was 11dBA lower than direct noise projected
from the enclosure.
